Isavia ANS has been receiving electronic visual flight plans for about 1.5 years now. Initially, this method was an option for pilots, but since last winter, it has been a requirement that all visual flight plans be submitted electronically. If necessary, it is possible to call a central phone number for assistance.

We have now gone through the first summer with this arrangement and it has been busy. The record day was August 29th last year when we received over 180 plans in one day. Flight data specialists handle the processing of these flight plans and have done well to handle them quickly and safely.

Electronic visual flight plans reach us either through websites or other programs that then forward them to us, e.g. through Cronos, which is our own system, or by phone where employees of Iceland Radio or flight data specialists receive the call and record the flight plan electronically. So far this year, the distribution between these three methods has been as follows:

It is positive to see that 100% of visual flight plans have become electronic and 96% come directly from users. However, there have been some instances where users do not wait for formal acknowledgment (ACK message) from Isavia ANS. It should be noted that contingency service is not provided unless an ACK message has been received by the user. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that such a message has been received, more details can be found in ENR 1.10 at https://eaip.isavia.is/.
