Annual meeting of the European Aviation Crisis Coordination Cell (EACCC) at Eurocontrol headquarters in Brussels.

Network Manager facilities, Eurocontrol, Brussels

Last week, Árni Guðbrandsson, our Senior ATM Expert, attended a European Aviation Crisis Coordination Cell (EACCC) workshop at Eurocontrol. During the session, the team concluded a review of the EACCC23 exercise, which focused on Space Weather response and communications. Key discussions included a presentation from The Royal Observatory of Belgium on Space Weather monitoring and advisories, a review of ICAO Doc 10100 regarding Space Weather and potential updates, and the need for more accessible Space Weather advisories for air navigation. Additionally, there was a look into the recent Space Weather event in May.

The annual meeting of EACCC, the first since COVID-19, was held in the new Network Manager facilities. The meeting covered the role of the EACCC and future projects, the upcoming EACCC25 exercise in March 2025 which will focus on GNSS spoofing and jamming and planned regional visits by EACCC staff to member states, including Iceland. Sven Halle from ICAO also gave a presentation on ICAO EUR doc031 “ICAO Crisis Management Framework”.

Árni also had the pleasure of meeting Iceland's State Liaison Officer, Guðmundur Sigurðsson.

Thank you, Árni Guðbrandsson, for representing us and contributing to these crucial discussions!
