Flight Inspection tour in Greenland

During the first week of September, the Isavia ANS Flight Inspection department went on one of its three annual trips to Greenland. Trips like these are a significant part of the important role the department plays in ensuring that navigation equipment and facilities at airports are in perfect condition and meet all international requirements.

This time, the projects received extra attention as TV host Kristján Már Unnarsson and cameraman Egill Aðalsteinsson joined the trip to gather material for the latest season of the TV series Flugþjóðin. Upcoming episodes will feature, among other things, an in-depth look at flight inspection and its importance for flight safety in the Arctic region.

The pilots for the trip were Þórður Pálsson and Trausti Magnússon, along with flight inspection technician Gunnar Þórðarson. The trip covered Kulusuk, Narsarsuaq, Paamiut, Nuuk, and Kangerlussuaq, where routine tests of navigation equipment were carried out. The first inspection were also conducted on new DME and VHF equipment in Qaarsut.

The trip went extremely well and the weather was favorable. The photographers and cameramen returned home with plenty of stunning footage, including a "low pass" flight of KING2 over the new runway 22 in Nuuk and an unexpected visit from a sea eagle that greeted our team during their work.
