A volcanic eruption is ongoing on the Reykjanes Peninsula but is currently not affecting air traffic. Isavia ANS is closely monitoring the situation in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

Drone Ban over volcanic eruption site near Grindavík

Due to a volcanic eruption and necessary emergency and investigative flights, the Icelandic Transport Authority, at the request of the Suðurnes District Civil Protection Command Centre, has prohibited all drone flights over the eruption area.

The restricted area is defined by a straight line between the following coordinates:

Litla Skógfell (635424N 0222512W),

Keilir (63563027N 022101228W),

Kleifarvatn (63541461N021593320W),

Húshólmi (63495123N022101737W),

Rás (Grindavík) (63495500N 022273600W),

Bláa Lónið parking lot (63525800N 022272400W),

Litla Skógfell (635424N 0222512W).

The restriction applies from the surface (SFC) up to 1,000 feet above mean sea level (AMSL).

The restriction is valid from 12:00 to 14:00 on July 16, 2025.
